Terms of Use
Last updated: September 29, 2026
These Terms govern your use of River Rat Guide, operated by SmithLink Enterprises LLC ("we," "us"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms. Please read the safety section carefully.
Safety first. River Rat Guide is an aid, not an authority. Its maps, routes, and community hazard reports can be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date. Do not rely on the app for your safety. Always use your own judgment, watch the water, and follow official navigation aids and local guidance.
1. The service
River Rat Guide provides river and waterway navigation information — maps, boat ramps, regulations, conditions, and a community-reported hazard layer — for the United States. Features and coverage may change over time.
2. Subscriptions and billing
Full access to River Rat Guide requires an auto-renewable subscription, offered with a free trial. Subscriptions are sold and managed by Apple through your App Store account, and are governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA).
- Your free trial converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- You manage or cancel your subscription in your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in the App Store. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
3. Your account and conduct
You are responsible for activity under your account. You agree not to misuse the app, interfere with its operation, attempt to access data that isn't yours, or use it for any unlawful purpose.
4. Community contributions
The app lets you submit hazard reports, map corrections, and other content. You agree to submit honest, good-faith information and not to submit false, misleading, abusive, or dangerous reports. By submitting content that appears to other users (such as hazard reports), you grant us a non-exclusive license to display and distribute that content within the app. We may remove or moderate content at our discretion. You are responsible for the content you submit.
5. Disclaimer of warranties
The app and all information in it — including maps, routing, boat ramps, regulations, conditions, and community-reported hazards — are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the information is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose.
Community hazard reports are user-generated and unverified. The absence of a reported hazard does not mean the water is safe, and a reported hazard may no longer exist or may be mislocated. Waterway conditions change constantly. Navigation and being on or near the water carry inherent risks, which you assume. The app is not a substitute for official navigation charts, marine forecasts, proper equipment, local knowledge, and sound judgment.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SmithLink Enterprises LLC and its owners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss, injury, or property damage, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the app or the information in it. Your use of the app is at your own risk.
7. Changes
We may update these Terms as the app evolves. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. The "Last updated" date above reflects the current version.
8. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
